Meet Kelly Mulder, Resident in Counseling
Sometimes what you’re experiencing doesn’t fit neatly into one box.
Maybe you’re anxious and constantly on edge. You’re exhausted, but you can’t sleep. Stress seems to show up in your body as much as it does in your thoughts. Or changes in your health, hormones, or physical well-being have left you feeling disconnected from a body that no longer feels as predictable as it once did.
Hi, I’m Kelly.
I’m a Resident in Counseling, and I believe what happens in your mind and what happens in your body are deeply connected. Instead of treating anxiety, sleep, emotions, physical symptoms, and life stress as separate problems, I work with you to understand how all of these pieces influence each other, because in my experience, they usually do.
I often work with high-achieving anxious adults who are running on empty. You’ve been the reliable one, the one who holds it together, and somewhere along the way your body started sending signals your calendar didn’t have room for. If that sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
How I work
I use a somatic, mind-body approach, which means we pay attention to what your body is communicating, not just what’s happening in your thoughts. Together we’ll start noticing the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, and build real tools to help you feel more grounded, regulated, and like yourself again.
Every client is different, so I draw from a mix of approaches depending on what you need: Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and CBT-I, a structured approach specifically for insomnia.
Why this work is personal to me
I bring my own understanding of chronic illness and autoimmune disease into this work. I know the exhaustion of unpredictable symptoms, the fatigue of having to explain what you’re experiencing to people who don’t quite get it, the grief of watching your health change, and the unsettling experience of wondering whether you can still trust your own body. You don’t have to explain that feeling to me from scratch.
My Goal For You
I want to help you understand the whole picture, not just manage one symptom in isolation, so you can sleep better, navigate anxiety and stress differently, reconnect with yourself, and start feeling more like you again.
I’m a Resident in Counseling under the supervision of Farah Alnajar, LPC. I see clients in Fairfax, VA and virtually throughout the DMV, including Arlington, Alexandria, Vienna, McLean, Centreville, and Sterling. Sessions are self-pay at $175, and I provide superbills so you can seek out-of-network reimbursement if your insurance offers it.
If this sounds like what you’ve been needing, I’d love to talk. Schedule your free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
